Socks (1 pair per day + 2 extra; wool preferred)

Warm fleece or sweatshirt

Rain jacket or poncho

Hiking boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes (broken in)

Camp sandals or extra shoes

Sun hat

Beanie or warm hat (evenings)

Light gloves

Toiletries & Personal

Toothbrush and toothpaste

Soap and shampoo (biodegradable)

Deodorant

Sunscreen (SPF 30+)

Insect repellent

Lip balm

Towel and washcloth

Toilet paper (for use away from facilities)

Hand sanitizer

Prescription medications — labeled, in original container

Completed BSA health form (on file with SM)

Gear & Equipment

Daypack or small backpack

Water bottle (at least 32oz; 2 recommended)

Headlamp with fresh batteries

Pocket knife (Totin' Chip required for scouts)

Scout handbook

Notebook and pencil

Map of area (if on a hike)

Compass

Whistle

Paracord (25 feet)

First Aid (personal)

Personal first aid kit — bandages, antiseptic wipes, moleskin for blisters

Any required prescription medications (inform SM)

EpiPen if prescribed (inform SM; SM carries a copy of health form)

Mess Kit

Plate or mess kit

Cup or mug

Fork, spoon, knife (spork works)

Dish soap, sponge, drying rag (for individual cleanup)

Leave at Home

Valuables — watches, expensive jewelry

Excessive electronics (check troop policy)

Cotton base layers (denim, cotton socks, cotton underwear — these stay wet)

Open-toe shoes as primary footwear

Unnecessary food in tent (attracts animals)
